Hello,

I have some pics of this PBY-5A Catalina but not during his service in WW2 with 162 Sqd of the RCAF.
All of the pics are welcome about this aircraft.

Dear S. Pang,

The Western Canada Aviation Museum in Winnipeg, Canada has the nose turret for CRR. A commercial bush aircraft company purchased the aircraft from military surplus and stripped two Cansos for conversion to hauling supplies, etc. They removed the turret and other fixtures from CF-CRR and stored these in a hangar at Netley, Manitoba.

Back in 1978 the hangar was abandoned and the WCAM received permission to remove whatever they wanted. Several volunteers attacked the hangar one Saturday morning and cleared out all the parts on the shelving. Many parts had tags attached listing the aircraft from which they were removed. There were numerous CRR tags among the components. Besides the two nose turrets, we also hauled away two complete sets of side blisters, and yes, one of the sets had CRR tags attached. I see from the photo that another set were purchased and installed on the aircraft.

Bonjour SPang

back in 1987 and again in 1991 I visited Parry Sound Airfield, ONT - in 1987 I managed to photograph almost the entire fleet of Canso's of the then defunct Avalon Aviation, while in 1991 only two aircraft were left....

I am pretty sure I have some nice shots of C-FCRR...

All of the pics are for the man whom responsible of this Catalina in France to complete the history of the C-FCRR.

If know an address to buy or exchange some parts of Cat, he's be interesting too.

best regards from France

Gentlemen,

For those who are not familiar with the history of this Canso, it is the only known suriving PBY that has a war record of having sunk a German U-Boat while in RCAF service.

It was a familiar landmark flying into and out of the Winnipeg Airport. I have one photo showing this aircraft without its side blisters in Winnipeg taken in the early 1970's.

Hi,

The Cat is not in flying condition for the moment.

Norman,
This Cat have sunk the U-boat U-342 on the 17th April 1944.
Is it possible to see the pic that you have when the Cat flew at Winnipeg.

Thanks a lot

Dear SPang,

I am in the process of moving from Pittsburgh to Winnipeg permanently upon retirement. This will be completed by September 2006. I will then locate the negatives and have prints made for you. I think I may have a 5 x 7 print of CRR somewhere in my apartment? Will check.

In case we lose contact with each other, my address in September will be:
Norman Malayney
11 Blue Heron Crescent.
Winnipeg, MB R2C ON1
Canada

Yours very truly,
