Hi to all,

Today I had a bit weird encounter with an old man. He was suddenly standing in my garden this morning. I had a talk with him and he told me that he was born and raised in a house in our street. During the conversation he told me that in my house downed airman were hide during the second world war. Very interesting, but that he told me that one of them was a black man. He was about 7 years old and told it very vively. But can it be true that it was an airman? Were there any black crewmembers active on the USA bombers in Europe?
Anyone who knows more about this?

Regards,

Mathieu.

Don't think there were any black airmen that crewed US bombers in combat, shot down fighter escort a possibility, there were a couple dozen at least that were captured POW's.

There was a black-crewed B-25 squadron in Italy, presumably 12th AF. However, RAF Bomber Command had quite a few West Indian airmen in its unsegregated crews, including pilots, so it's very likely that this is the answer.

Far as I ever heard, black crewed B-25 unit never made it to operational status and never deployed to any combat zone
