Are you talking about the left roll just at liftoff? Difficult to see with the embankment in the way.

Prop fighters require right aileron at takeoff due to the torque effect -- depending on which way the prop turns. Lots of it.

Great video and even better soundtrack! Agreed on that weird camera angle of the P-51 takeoff.

Dave, the left roll almost made me think for a second that the left wing tip had hit the ground!

It was not until I saw the plane sink into the ground that I realized the runway is slopping downwards from the camera.

So where in the world do we have circular downward runways? LOL...I know there is visual effects due to lens involved here also.

Great video overall.

There is nothing odd/unusual about the runway (the airport is Heringsdorf) - what would be unusual is if the runway was completely flat. It's just filmed from far away, and the slight embankment got in the way of a clear shot of the aircraft. The bank to the left, just after takeoff, was on purpose, as most of the viewing audience was down at that end and the pilot directed the aircraft nearer/toward them.

John Mohr, who used to perform extremely low Stearman aerobatics, would take advantage of airports that might have a slight embankment or grounds lower than the runway, to appear as though he "crashed" as he would disappear from sight, only to of course reappear again, climbing into another vertical maneuver.

Thank you Mr. John for making it clear!.

Not being local makes you see on the WEB whatever you feel your interpretation is. I love this place for challenging and correcting me....

Cheers!

The P-51 is nice and all, but when the Spitfire comes in shortly after the Mustang takes off...that sound of the Spitfire is intoxicating!

La Ferte Alais is one of those airfields on a hill. The one time I was there everybody appeared to play nice, but I have been told that circuits have been flown below runway elevation. Drop down after take off, circle the airfield and pop up on short final.

Wanaka is always a good one as well as planes fly down the stream next to the runway below runway level.
