Warbird Information Exchange

I'm currently on active duty in the USAF and the resident historian in my squadron. We're going to be celebrating our centennial this coming June and, I know this is a bit of a pipe dream but, if we could arrange for a B-17 to make an appearance at McGuire AFB, it would be the cat's ass.

During WWII, the 32d Bomb Squadron flew B17s with a brief stint in the UK before moving down to North Africa and then ended up in Italy, outside of Foggia, with the rest of the 301st Bomb Group. I have been fortunate enough to meet a few of my squadron's vets (some of whom have passed on, sadly,) and was quite fortunate to be able to visit Foggia this spring to visit the fields where my squadron finished out the war. The squadron was activated on 13 June, 1917 and served as a training/mx squadron during WWI before transitioning to a bomb squadron in the 20s, which it remained as such until the 60s. Since then, we've been an air refueling squadron.

I've been lurking here for a while, but it is now worthwhile to post, I believe. Would anyone know of whom I can contact to see about the feasibility of making this happen? It'd be, most likely, one day/overnight for display in/in front of a hangar on base where we'll have our gala/party/shindig.

Yankee Lady (Yankee Air Museum) is usually in the area in late May and early June attending the Jones Beach airshow and the WWII Weekend in Reading P.A. that may be an option.

Thanks. I'll try them again. They never did respond to my emails earlier this year.

I think Mustangdriver here on the Forum is involved with the EAA B-17 Aluminum overcast too.

To get the B-25 from Reading to McGuire for the night, will probably run you about $7500 all-in. I figure the B-17 depending on availability and where they are will be a little more, the CAF's "FIFI" might also be another option, as the B-29 should be in the northeast in June and also was used by the 32nd, albeit after WWII..
