Looks to be more than one P-40B. One is P-40B with the 77th PS, 20th PG 11-7-1940 at what I believe is Hamilton Field CA. The other looks to be a 22nd PS P-40? Your better with the P-40 history than I am. What do you think?

Nope, not me selling. If I ever got my hands on these I would probably be buried with 'em. lol

I've not been following epay lately, so hadn't seen these auctions... although I have seen two of these photos for sale in the past. They're all initial production P-40s... just 'P-40', no suffix. All look to be from the 77th Pursuit Squadron. Ship #70 wears squadron CO stripes... funny, although it has the red spinner of the 77th PS, I'd think that '70' would have been assigned to the 55th PS. Maybe there was a bit of gray area in number assignments when it came to the squadron CO's mount.

Groovy stuff. Wish I could bid on them...

Hi All,

Aviation Archaeology list a accident date of 11-13-40 for P-40, 39-275, 77PS, 20PG, Hamilton Field, CA this is probably 20P70. Photo dated 10-29-40 as P-40, 40-293, 77PS, 20PG, Hamilton Field, CA.

Aviation Archaeology has no listing for the date noted for 20P64, maybe a bent prop is not a "Major Accident"? For sure it is also is assign to the 77PS but the emblem on the fuselage looks incomplete.

They all are some of the first permanent camouflage aircraft of the Air Corps with the up-sweep of the counter-shadow under the tail, and the pre-war symmetrical gloss wing insignia and "flag" rudder markings.

Ship #48 is indeed a P-40G, and I have a photo of this Hawk on my site... second image from the top:

Back when I was still a builder, I built a model of #48. Made alotta mistakes, but I was not as well-informed on all this stuff back then.

Still, looks fairly decent, me thinks. Perhaps I'll go back and make some fixes.




Ship #100 was assigned to the CO of the 55th Pursuit Squadron.

I came across info on AAIR for only the accident dated 10/29/40, which is ship #57 by the way.

Will have to go back and make a more thorough search, see if I can find that other one mentioned by Tom.
