I bought this from a collector who had bought it from the original purchaser of a bunch of surplus WWII gear. That person had removed most of the 30+ tubes, which I replaced using eBay sources. I subsequently added the following accessories/system peripherals:
1. 1 pair of NOS AS-32/APX-1 antennas 2. 1 each RT-24/APX-2 transponder/interrogator-responser NOS without mount* 3. 1 each TN-8/APX-1 NOS* 4. 1 each CU-13/APX-1 NOS* * - All parts mounted on main chassis of RT-24/APX-2 5. 1 each C-54/APX-1 master control box NOS 6. 1 each C-55/APX-1 code selector control box NOS with all 5 electrical connectors for both C-54 & C-55 7. 1 each C-56/APX-2 radar operator's control box NOS 8. 1 each C-57/APX-2 pilot's control box NOS 9. 1 each J-25/APX-2 adapter (junction box) NOS/NIB 10. 1 each SA-3/A impact switch like new
All this equipment has USN stamped markings.
Price is $2K + UPS boxing & shipping at buyer's cost, paid before shipment. Payment via PayPal. Pix on request.
As a note regarding the value I have in this, the C-57 alone cost me $500, the RT-24 $200, the tubes over $200, the J-25 $100, plus the other control boxes, antennas & connectors for which I've lost track. At $2K I'm basically recovering my out-of-pocket costs for assembling this system.
As an additional note, I have the red-leatherette (Restricted) manual Handbook of Maintenance Instructions for Model AN/APX-2A Aircraft IFF Equipment. It is about 2 inches thick & covers all the control boxes as well as the interrogator-responser. Lots of foldouts, the only ones I've seen that are in color for the circuit analysis foldouts. $1K + UPS boxing & shipping paid before shipping when purchased with transponder.
I believe this APX-2 was standard equipment in most 2-seat USN fighter & patrol aircraft during most of WWII. Pic in the manual shows it in use in a PBM. Used in the following aircraft types: AF-2W, F6F-3N, P2V-4, PB4Y-2, PBM-5S, PBY-6A, R4Q-1, TBM-3S, SB2C-5.
Local pickup available in Bucks Co, PA after payment. Save on shipping.
