Warbird Information Exchange

The update was posted several days ago from John Beyl. What great a effort on this bird! I was not fortunate in knowing Don, but what a tribute to him that so much progress has been made in returning Redtails back to the air. I have heard Doug Rozendahl speak personally on the new metal/chip detector for the P-51. This was developed after Don's loss. The thought from Doug was that if the detector had been available, they (Redtails pilots/crew) would have had advance notice that something was headed in the wrong direction with the engine and..... Several of the original Tuskegee Airmen (Kenneth Wofford, Joe Gomer and Vern Hopson) will be honored guests February 1st at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Hangar at Fleming Field in South St. Paul, MN. Join us as KFAN’s (AM 1130), Mike Morris and Chris Hawkey will broadcast live from 6AM – 9AM. Followed by Al Malmberg & Jack Rice (live from studio) of WCCO Radio 830 from 12PM – 3PM. This event is the 2006 fundraiser kickoff for the Red Tail Project (RTP). The Tuskegee Airmen were among the nearly 1,000 young black men who fought both racial prejudice and the German Luftwaffe in the famed 332nd fighter group, known for the distinctive “Red Tails” on the aircraft they flew so proudly.

I wanted to bump this thread up as John and crew have still been making progress on the P-51C. There is a new update posted....... Alan
