Hi All,

I've been looking for a P-51 documentary for a year or so. I watched it many years ago - say 5-10. I go on Youtube and there's several P-51 documentaries but I can't find this particular one.

It isn't a Dogfights Doc
It isn't a Great Planes Doc
It isn't a BBC Doc
It's not a Showdown Doc

All I can describe about it is:

1) It has a Midwestern-voiced narrator

2) It has a modern day re-enactor pretend to be a WWII pilot and get aboard the plane and fly. I think there's modern flight footage but the re-enactor is in the back seat of a D.

3) It had the following veteran commenters in it:

Don Blakeslee
Kit Carson

and many others.

3) Anecdotes from the show:

One fellow talked about how on his first mission he threw up all over the cockpit and his crew chief said, "I've seen worse" and he never had a problem after that.

Blakeslee said something to the effect of "I hated the SOB's so that solved any problems I had with that."

This Kit Carson was (I believe) a bomber pilot and talked about how happy he was to see 51's

One fellow had a wingy named "Bert" and they were creeping up on a 109 and Bert kept yelling "109's!!!!!" and the vet said "Easy Bert!" but didn't know that Bert was talking about a 109 BEHIND them.....until tracers ripped past the canopy.

That's about all I can remember. I've watched 6-8 docs on Youtube but none of these is the one. If you happen to know the name of the doc and the channel that produced it please let me know.

thanks

The one you're thinking of was part of the "Heavy Metal/Battle Stations" series which used to air on the History channel.

The modern color footage in the documentary was that of the UK-based 352nd FG combat vet "Miss Helen".
