Hi all
as some of you may know we have been busy with our A-26 and most recently the B-25 Lucky Lady. In our down time we have been researching
the practice of taking aircraft parts and pieces, skins and frames that have been subject to compression, twisting and other forces that have changed the
original shape of the part or piece, and reforming it and putting the items through the same heat treatment process as original. Now we're not talking about
aircraft remains that have corrosion or severe impact damage, more like leading edges, ribs and extrusions etc. Our desire is to keep as much original material
on this project as possible so it can be displayed as a static for now. Of course the search for more parts will continue but has any wixer had any previous
experience in this time of 'rework' or could someone provide some technical feedback on the consequences of such a process ie if the original shape is achieved
could it also achieve the same original strength?
