Hi all,

Im interested in seeing some pictures of the old Florence Air & Missile Museum. I would have loved to visit this place but was never able to. But some airplanes did make its way to Elmira where I get to see them, like the old B-57 and BTD(now in TN).

Thanks in advance,
Nate

Hi Nathan...I dropped in there once or twice on the way to Myrtle Beach from Ohio...and after Hugo did a number on the place. I think I still have a flyer from there somewhere.

Let me see if i can dig up a few pics...it was one of those places that had something unique around every corner...including a V2 engine and tracking consoles from NASA missions.

The B-47 went to the Natl Museum of the Mighty 8th AF. Very unfortunate, the Connie was scrapped.

I drove past the Museum once and wanted desparately to pay them a visit, but "She Who Must Be Obeyed" decreed that we didn't have time to stop. :x

I think I recall reading that their B-26K was scrapped.

Lousy weather over the holidays so I just might find those pics...

I do know that the inland winds from Hugo were so strong it picked the B-47 up off the plinth it was on, turned it over 90 degrees and then gently landed it on the mains...

After Hugo the museum pretty much folded

I have a lot of slides, but I haven't scanned them yet.

I have several pictures of the FAMM, including some aerial pictures I took in 1995. Also, an old postcard, that I think dates from the late 1970's. They are all on print film. So I have to scan them, will try to do so this weekend. I have two digital images of the F-84F right after it was repainted by volunteers from a local group of civic minded GE employees. I can post it here or send it to you via email. PM me your address, if you like.

I would like to see those slides, please. :D

A fairly complete disposition of the FAMM aircraft is available on the internet.

By the way, the "Connie", NC-121K was scrapped but, about 12' of the nose section resides at a private residence in Charlotte, NC. (That is as of about 2001).

C-1A Trader 136790. The Stratocruiser was 0-22694. F-86 0-25737. H-34A 4496 HO4S-1 125506.
I snapped the photos in 1990. Not in the photos were F-84 0-26553, Voodoo 0-60243 and
YF-102A 31788.

The B-29 (44-70113) is now a gate guard at Dobbins ARB, Marietta, GA. A basic cosmetic restoration was done (incorrect turrets, PVC pipe guns, blisters from Burger King playground, etc.).

A number of the aircraft made the move to the Carolinas Aviation Museum. YF-102, F-101 maybe a helicopter, the nose section of the KC-97, Honest John missle(s) and portable launcher, Regulus I, a Mercury capsule mock-up and some of the launch consoles from the Mercury program. All in various stages of storage and disrepair.
