Someone told me once that the U.S> is still bound by the S.A.L.T. treaties between the U.S and the Soviet Union that President Carter signed in the 1970s. We have to de-mill and leave in place until viewed by Soviet satellites, X number of bombers per year.
The B-52 is exactly what we need for these decades of fighting unsophisticated, low tech war as we are this week against ISIS. They have tremendous range and can loiter for very long periods of time while able to carry immense bomb loads. I predict there will be a day when the U.S. regrets scrapping so many B-52's and A-10s.

i believe the salt agreements are still in effect. walter soplata had a forward fuselage / cockpit of a 52. it was some kind of record holder. i don't know the disposition of it since his passing on.
