I have a fascination whith photos taken by the aircraft manufacturers during the 40's and the beginning of the 50's, particularly with colour ones, and I have a few questions about Lockheed.
- what was the proportion of Lockheed pictures that were taken in color at this time (between 1944 and 1950) ? Some books, like those of Bill Yenne about Lockheed or Warren Bodie about the P-38 have beautiful color photographs taken at that time, or even earlier.
- what happened to all the original negatives (BW or colour) ? It seems that access to these documents is almost impossible, even by professional historians, why? I don't even know if they are classified and referenced by Lockheed, or if they are in some dusty boxes that everyone has forgotten at Lockheed ?
- when Lockheed closed Burbank plant, what became photos and negatives stored in the plazt ?
- I wonder if there is somewhere a myriad of colour negatives on the XF-90, P-80 and P-80R, Constitution, that will one day be accessible ?
Thanks...

Nobody knows ?

A few colour photos that seem to date from yesterday, but it's Constellation, not XF-90 nor P-80R...

You might try the Smithsonian archives. They have a lot of color images that were given to them.

Jerry,

Do they have an online searchable archives? The only dealings I've had with NASM is getting photos of Greenamyer's Bearcat as it looks at Udvar-Hazy.
