Congrats to Steven Hinton on his third National Air Race Championship Unlimited Gold title!

Here's a few more I took on Monday...
Strega in the Pits.

We spent all weekend handing the Ops at the California Capital Airshow in Sacramento, so on Monday afternoon, the Airdales headed to Reno on the advice of Steve Hinton and Jason Somes. Steve took me and the guys on a personal tour and spent about an hour with us. Pretty awesome time!

Nice Mustang!
Well done to all and I'm glad they had a safe raceweek.

Cough ~ Mk.XIV ~ cough....

Remember kids, the XIX (or 19) is cool, but has no guns, just cameras which just won't do. The XIV can have cameras, but always has guns.

Good webpage on this machine from the So Cal CAF folks: http://www.cafsocal.com/spitfire.htm

Well, from having seen him in action out here, we need to know if there a requirement to cross the finish line with all your control surfaces intact, and a penalty for landing on a moving vehicle rather than the runway?

Regards,

Oh, yeah, the Hinton chap. He dun good.

I wonder if Strega has any of A68-679 left in her, other than the dataplate?

Nice to see an ex-Aussie Mustang go on to bigger and better things. Thanks to the Aussie, Pearce Dunn, the fuselage from a farm had a chance to live and fly again. Oh, and a number of gents from the US can probably claim a little credit too 8)

Cheers,
Matt

Right about the third win. I forgot about the awarding last year. Changed it!

James; Sorry about the "19". It was late and I just didn't have time to figure the X's, V's and I's!!! :D
(At least I got the "MK" correct!!!)

Yeah, once it goes to Cs Ls etc. I have to get my chisel and stone slab out to check what it is...

The best news is what we're NOT hearing: anything about serious accidents, incidents, injuries or fatalities.

Reno needed a safe year and I have to assume the pilots were conscious of this, and they came through. Kudos to them.

I should have said, "Reno needed a safe year and I have to assume the pilots and crews were conscious of this, and they came through. Kudos to them."

Only potential mishap I've heard about is one of the Formula 1 Racers apparently suffered some sort of inflight structural failure but was able to safely land. The FAA report is about as vacant of anything except an N-Number as an initial report can get.

It was a Sport Class racer. Fluttered a trim tab.

I'm with you BDK. As much as I had this on my bucket list, I'd at least like there to be some competition. I hate to say it, but I'm glad I saved the expense of going out West and watched the live feed.

I thought this was the 4th time young Steve Hinton was certified the Gold winner. 2009, 2010, 2011, and now 2012.

Or was last year's race considered "cancelled" after Galloping Ghost crashed, so no winners declared?
