Brad, great pictures! Would you have an idea in what precise year they were taken?

Congratulations Tulio!

Brad: Tks for all the FAH Pics!

FAH 503:

Just to keep the record straight with Brad's P-63 shots: I'm repeating the question again. P-63 Buff/FAH619

What kind of FAH Reg is the P-63E showing in Jul-24-2005?

Amado,

I can't find my log books right off, but they could have been made at any point between 96 and 99. I made several trips a year down there during that time. Notice the different stages of missing fabric from the rudder!

I know that a couple of them were taken in June of 99. I only remember that because hanging on the door of my office is a "do not disturb" sign from the Hotel Princess in Teguchigalpa. I went down there when Bill Clinton made his visit (no I'm not proud of being associated with him) and we were supposedly the first people to stay in that hotel. I had nothing to write on except the sign so I wrote his and all the staffs room numbers on it so I could keep track of everyone. It's a strange souvenier!

Any of the Equador and El Salvador pictures were taken in September of 97.

Brad,

Thanks very much for the information. I can assure you the pics showing the dry brownish grass were those taken in June (99).

Saludos,

Amado

Hi All,

I know this may seem like a rather silly question, but as it was pointed out, these photo's were taken some time back. Does this aircraft still exist, or was it sold ?

Paul

Paul,

This Bell P-63E King Cobra is currently located in the same site shown in the photos. The Honduran Air Force donated the aircraft to the Museo del Aire de Honduras (Honduras Air Museum), located in Tegucigalpa, and there are plans to move it to the museum's premises, where it will be restored for static display.

Paul:

This aircraft is currently on display at the FMAH Museum in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The picture below was taken c. 3-2005 and it shows the P-63E as it is now. Yes, it needs some serious work soon!

Bell P-63E 43-11732 is the only FAH survivor out of 5 samples bought c. 1948-1949. To this date, not even the Museum Staff has an idea of its real FAH registration. The pictures above show a FAH Reg number difficult to read in 2005.

Our research shows that both sides of the aft fuselage should exhibit in standard US markings (45 Degree) angle numbers as such----->403.

If the FMAH Museum folks find during its upcoming restoration another FAH Reg number www.catrachowings.com will make the necessary apologies. P-63E Buff/FAH619

OscarDuece, the mindset is very different down there. I had a partner who went down there to look at a business opportunity. He noticed that there was a beautiful train station that looked empty, he asked when the trains ran and was told they didn't run anymore. When he pressed a little more he found out that the tracks needed repair, SO THEY JUST SHUT THE RAILROAD DOWN INSTEAD ! You can imagine where that old airplane fits on the scale of things.
