Just returned from the USAFM. A re-visit to those great birds I ddn't see in Jan. This trip was the Restoration Hanger, Presidential Hanger, R&D Hanger, and OPEN COCKPIT NIGHT! Oh...Sorry....Back to the B-17.
Posted some pics of the Mephis Belle and the Swoose. Here are a few of the Shoo, Shoo Baby.
Now where do I post the other 400+ pics??

I haven’t been to the museum since 1998 when I was passing through. I was not overly happy to see you couldn’t get good photos without a tripod due to how dark it is in there. Baby was backed into a corner then with the skin of a shot down B-17’s tail at the time, looks like she’s in a different position now, thankfully.

They rearranged the WWII gallery a few years ago when the moved the B-36 and other post-war stuff into the new Cold War gallery. Now that entire building is taken up by WWII stuff. I love the museum, but agree about the lighting..the place has always been a photographer's nightmare.

I have a cheap camera and had no problems taking good pictures. I love the dark setting...

I hear ya Scott!
The pics I added on the Belle, Swoose, & Twin Mustang were taken by a used $40 E-BAY camera!

But I do envy those who produce those FABULOUS in flight & highly detailed shots.
Masterful photography!

Agreed, the lighting is terrible.

Museum photography at places like USAFM has been getting easier thanks to improved digital cameras with lower noise at high ISOs, image stabilization, and so forth.

One problem however is that only the most expensive digital cameras (full-frame DSLRs) offer true wide-angle coverage, so it's difficult to get all of a big airplane in one shot in a crowded museum.
