A fellow named Neil Aird has a web page with very nice pictures of Davis-Monthan circa 1968. I got an email from my FAC buddy with the link, and I thought I'd share it with you.

Great stuff!

It's amazing how many people I run into at airshows or museums who believe that there are still rows and rows of B-17s and other WWII warbirds parked out in the desert. Of course, 99% had been turned into aluminum siding and pots and pans by 1950.

Incredible.

Imagine the stories those aircraft could have told.

It reminds me of my first visit in 1976...a lot of those planes were still there.

Lots of day glo! Gives me goosebumbs looking at all those pics! I am been collecting some day glo photos off of ebay. I got a cool shot of a B-47 all day glowed up. I'll post later.

It doesn't happen every weekend, but visitors often ask about that at the museum.

Don't forget to click on all the other photo collections on that website. A HUGE collection of how it once was.

I wonder if Doc Brown made a DeLorean big enough to bring back a Connie and a B-47 for me to play with...

As usual, I'm awed by the wrong stuff. I got the hugest kick out of the shots taken through the 66-70's-era Ford/Chevrolet/Chrysler sedan windshield with tinted upper section over the mile-wide dash. Talk about 'the birds what brung me'!
