Revisited the F-101 at Airborne Airpark on my way to home and back to school during fall break; she's not looking so hot these days (moreso than when I saw her this spring)

Pranged wingtip

Several places look like she had run-ins with a lawnmower

I wasn't aware fiberglass was around at that stage?

The oil corrosion I noted last spring seems to have got a lot worse

This aside, she still has her pride about her:

Hopefully this bird can be saved, although as empty as KILN is now I don't know who takes care of her (if anyone).

Also, if anyone knows anything about ILN when it was Clinton County Air Force Base, please post it; there isn't much to be found on the internet.

I've seen remains of a radar pods off some hellcat crashes during WW2 and it appears to be the same material. I'm sure that someone can enlighten us as to what it is.

Hate to see a bird in that condition.

Tim

Best bet would be to QUIETLY gather a group of enthusiasts and professionals who could contact whom-so-ever is in charge of her to spruce her up. Squawk too loud and the AF will take one look, say, "This aircraft has not been maintained, Scrap It!" AND Keep the mower crew away from her!!!

I believe the radomes were mostly fiberglass and some other materials.
