For the moment, I can't give you a link to look at, but this is how it's done here in Canada - at least in southern Ontario. The procession inevitably ends up moving down one of the major highways and the overpasses are jammed with people gathered to pay tribute.

Thank you Staff Sergeant First Class John C. Beale for your service and ultimate sacrifice. Thank you also to every single person along that procession route for taking time out of thier day to pay tribute to one of our fallen heros. This type of tribute should be the norm and not the exception.

Just Google "Highway of Heroes" and check out the videos of the processison from CFB Trenton to the coroner in Toronto for the Canadians.
The images along the route are always the same. Patriotism for the fallen soldier.
