Advertised as a Mustang blade, but I don't think it is.
Anyone know what airplane it goes to?

It looks like a curtiss electric. It could be from a p-51a or p-40.

Well, the EPay ad does say an early model 3-bladed P-51, so that would work with the Curtiss Electric, are the numbers readable?

The key to your blade mystery is the decal on the blade. It cleary is a Aero Products decal. First, that eliminates being P-40, P-38, P-51A and A-36, as they were all Curtiss Electric props. Curtiss Electric was the only manufacture of a (3) bladed prop for a Mustang.
The E-bay seller is correct, it is for a Mustang, a P-51K. This was used on the P-51's that were built in Dallas, TX. all were (4) bladed assemblies.
As for the average, non-informed E-bay seller, everything is either for a P-51 or a B-17. That is where the most interest occurs and the highest prices are paid by non-informed bidors.

I think the P-51K blades have a wider chord than that. What kind of a prop is on P-63?

Dan,
If you will refer to Tech order AN 03-20EA-1 dated 10 February 1945, it will confirm that this blade was used only on the P-51K. Also, you can-not mix parts (blades and etc) from the different propeller manufactures. This blade must be used in a Aero Products hub only.

about five years back I had locked in a bid for an 8' Hamilton single blade from a B-29. The (i forget the name) one that has the sleave on the end. The guy was in CT and would not ship it.., for obvious reasons.., the seller seemed 'questionable' so I called NEAM and sent them the details of the sale.., the guys address was in the vicinity of NEAM and this was during the restoration of their B-29..,

The guy backed out of the auction after I pressed him for info on the item.., where he got it.., etc... he just vanished.

would have been nice hanging over my door to my NYC apartment!! HAH

not sure what the heck I would have done with it!

8 Feet of aluminum and steel and probably 200 lbs?

P-63 has an Aeroproducts prop as well, but I think the blades may be shorter. Maybe the angle of the photo is deceiving because the taper on the end of the blade does make it look different from a P-51 blade.

16 Feet of solid aluminum and probably 300 lbs

A couple of things. Wouldn't the single blade be only about 8' in length? Also, weren't those blades hollow steel?

I just walked outside and measured the B-29 blade sittin' in my front yard. It is 7' 11 3/4" long. I doubt it's 300 pounds, but I bet it's every bit of 150-200 pounds.

Sorry to get off track from the E-pay blade, but I just wanted to clear up the B-29 stuff.

If you look at the original photos on E-bay, you can clearly see the Blade Assembly number is A-20-156-24M. This prop blade is used on the P-51K Mustang that was manufactured by North American Aviation in Dallas, TX. The same blade number was also used on the P-39 M&N and the P-63 A&C aircraft.
Bottom line, it can be used on a P-39, P-51 or P-63.

yah, thanks, I meant 8', but was looking at a photo at the time of the whole prop and somehow typed out 16'.

Is it steel or aluminum?
