I never really thought of it before I looked more closely at Tangerine in Tillamook, but are the P-38s booms interchangable or are they left and right?

Do you know what the silver paint is on the plane(DuPont - PPG), and the paint code perhaps?

Must be a reeeeeeally bad neighborhood if you can't even park in your own hanger without ending up on blocks! 8)

Did anyone notice that the wrong registration is on the aircraft? NL7722C belongs to a P-51 and this one should be NL7723C.

IIRC the structure and attachment is the same.
I believe there are differences in where control cable pulleys are installed as well as only one side was set up for a battery to be installed. Those are some of the differences.

Thanks Fixer. I noticed that a large inspection cover is on the left side only of both booms so thats why I wondered if they were interchangable. Maybe same thing regarding the battery and pulley attachments being installed only after determining which side of the aircraft they will go on. My thought here is that if you were rebuilding a 38 that needed a left boom and you had a spare right one, could it be easily configured to be used as a left one. Don't read anything into this. I don't have a P-38 in my garage. (wish wish wish).

A twin engined Mustang? Watch out- someone will think there is a P-82 flying!

Easily is a relative term.
It would be possible.
