Hi,

I do research at the National Archives on a weekly basis and have quit a few wartime pics of L-Birds and every other a/c under the sun.

If you have an L-Bird and contact me with the serial number, I may have a wartime pic of it.

Regards,
Mike

Sorry, I don't have a pic of your L-5. Actually I don't have any pics of a 45 prefixed a/c so far.
I'll keep your info. and should I run across it in the future will scan a copy of it.

Regards,
Mike

Actually, any L-2 pics as not many seem to be around. Poor plane was overshadowed by its L-4 cousin despite being (my opinion) a better design.

Here, here! I agree with that statement. I understand the issues that they were dealing with with the higher stall/spin accident rate, but the L-2 really is a good bird.

I've only run across 1 L-2 pic so far. I'm not really doing any research on L-Birds, these are just some pics I've run across while working for others.
I will continually make scans of anything new that I find, but it will be a long process as I dig thru photos.

Mike,

Have you run across any color pictures of L-5's? Looking for photos taken at or of Barbers Point Aircraft. Particularly interior shots. Also, do you just work with photos or records as well?

Thanks,
Mike

PS I'll take any L-5 photos :)

Unfortunately the L-2 is a 100 hp aircraft with 65 installed hp.

It does ok on 65 and just fine on 85.

Ryan-

If yours has an 85 I envy you, ours had the standard 65 and with the L-2 empty/gross weights significantly greater (actually equal to an additional passenger) climb was significantly less than a lightweight civil Taylorcraft Tandem. There is little doubt that the additional weight had an effect on the accident rate and subsequent withdrawal from the Liaison program and use in the glider training program without the additional weight of the liaison equipment (radios, etc).

FYI, for those who want to discuss L-birds more in depth I just put together a new forum for my website at: http://lbirds.forumotion.com/forum.htm
It's NOT intended to in any way replace this wonderful site, but hopefully will make finding L-bird stuff easier.
