At the end of the WW2, there were any number of Pacific islands just covered with military aircraft.

My Dad told me a story of Saipan in 1946. Huge numbers of factory near-new FM-2 Wildcats being placed on barges and dumped in the ocean. He was VF-19's maintenance officer and the F8F-1 Bearcat used the same or similar tailwheel as the FM-2. VF-19 had a shortage of tailwheels and wanted to strip some off the Wildcats before they took their trip to the deep six. Nope -- not allowed: each Wildcat must be dumped intact.

So it seems like its fishing time! So where around Saipan can we all find this dump site?

:) You think those deep sea WWII wiver teams on TV would try to find those sites to photgraph.
