After JDK's "interesting" couple of quizes, I thought I'd offer one that might be a bit easier but still different. As he did, I'll ask those who are around this on a regular basis to please hold off and let others have a shot at it. If you like this quiz I may have a couple even more interesting. Have fun oh, and as for a hint...it is not in New Zealand!

Perhaps I assumed too much and didn't say what type of aircraft is the oil on?

I was under the impression that you ran air thru the oil cooler tubes and the oil across the tubes to cool it. It appears this installation runs air across the tubes, what sort of oil collection system does this installation have to put the oil once again in front of the oil cooler??

Well, this is getting interesting. Let me see if I can answer the questions posed. For The Inspector, one of the inlets is for an oil cooler that works like most I'm familiar with, i.e. a honeycomb of tubes that allow cooling air to flow through them cooling the hot oil flowing inside the tubes. The oil shown in the photo is basically leakage after the engines are shut down, I'd say. If I've missed your question, please let me know.

Ober - no not a pusher as I understand the term.

That means it's a ROUND engine then.

Sully - correct, there is a round engine mounted above these air intakes.

JDK - yes, it is currently located in Texas. I'm going to not go further on the location for now, if you don't mind.

If needed, I will post another portion of the aircraft in question that will probably give more clues, but not quite yet.

I knew that would blow the quiz but congratulations to b29flteng. The original image is is of the air and oil cooler intakes for the front engine. of the Ju 52 I'll post an overview picture in the morning plus another teaser image quiz of another aircraft.

I'd guess it was the corrugated skin, right? The second image is of the retracted landing light under the left wing.
