OK WIX Brain, I recall seeing somewhere in either writings or readings about my Pop that toward the end of the War, P-47's were dropping depth charges as concussion bombs, deep in the jungle to fight the well dug in Japanese ground forces.

Can anyone add to or refute this story? Thanks. Pop was with the 60th FS of the 33rd FG 1944 through the end. I could be wrong totally or it could have been another group. Find it interesting no matter who.

Thanks,
Air Cadet 15.5 (solo soon)

The problem with the theory is how underwater marine explosive devices like depth charges were fused and how they were set and operated.

There isn't a way to compensate for the difference in air or water pressure to make a depth charge function in anything but the pressure conditions of water.

Then you're faced with the fact that a Naval depth-charge wasn't something designed or made to hang off the exterior of a fighter like the P-47.

I suspect it's one of those anecdotal stories.

Suspension wouldn't be a problem but pressure would be.
More than likely just a GP bomb with a delay on the fusing.
Many DC were simply this also.
