What Allied WW2 combat aircraft never wore D-Day invasion stripes? My guess is the P-39, P-40, Corsair, SBD, SB2C, B-17, B-24, Lancaster, Hurricane, Russian aircraft? ...

I actually think there was a Hurricane squadron that had D-day stripes.

I think some French Dauntlesses had them.

It would be easier to list what did have them...

I'm sure I've never seen a picture or heard of any of the "heavies" with them, presumably because they were operating at high altitude and would be unnecessary.

You could probably come up with a substantial list of aircraft that despite giving sterling service in the early years of the war were out of front-line service, relegated to supporting tasks and not expected to stray far from home. However, I guess there will always be the odd one painted up.

P-39, P-40, Hurricane. I would be surprised if there were any still in front line service in the UK, or Southern England in particular, by June 1944.

Russian aircraft AFAIK never flew in support of the Western front so that's a fair bet.

I have seen photo's of Hurricane's with the stripes.
Most 4 engine planes did not have them because Germany didn't have or not very many four engine aircraft so they were not used.
Sterlings did though.

The only four-engine birds I know of to carry invasion stripes were some Stirlings and Halifaxes used as glider tugs.

There were a few Hurricanes that wore invasion stripes but I don't think any of them were in a combat roll. They were used to deliver mail if I am recalling correctly.

What an awkward question. Do you need a complicated answer? The simple answer is Allied aircraft involved in the D-Day operations and area.

The invasion stripes were there to provide friendly ID to Allied forces of Allied aircraft. Those aircraft in theatre at the time were normally painted with them; as Chad says, the Hurricanes were mail carriers, but they were included in the requirement which had nothing to do with any role; just location of aircraft operations or bases.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invasion_stripes

(A good introduction, but the statement about the Dieppe raid is too vague for a complex and misunderstood marking.)

Some other aircraft wore combinations of white stripes, such as early Mustangs, Typhoons etc as recognition aids; they have nothing to do with the June 44 stripes.

according to brassey's D Day encyclopedia these were there. Let's add to the list as we find info that shows they were there. Just reply with the webpage and I'll cut and paste it in, no need to add all those extra photos...

Some would say the He177 had four engines.

Daimler-Benz DB 606, which consisted of two Daimler-Benz DB 601 engines coupled together to use a common propeller,
