That might be a test of the hydroflap to provide better ditching characteristics. Any additional photos of that one?

Whats the poop on the A-26 with the spinners and beavertail nacelles? I'd guess the hay rake attached to the nacelles aft end was some sort of air pressure or flow measuring inputs :?:

What did they keep in the hangar in the 4th pic... The USS Missouri??

That B-24 ditching operation was partly to test shoring the bomb bay doors so they wouldn't cave in during the ditching. At some point there was a "ditching kit" added to the airplanes that consisted of some bracing that could be installed to help hold the doors somewhat closed when they hit the water. It actually seems to have worked here, but the nose doors and forward fuselage still caused typical problems. There were more tests to try to solve the problems caused by the top turret and flight deck being squashed together in a crash landing.

That B-50 mother ship was burned to the ground in November of '51 when the tanks on the X-1 ruptured after landing. In fact, it was the X-1 in the picture that was involved.
