I posted an update to the Aero Vintage website tonight with additions to B-17 News, B-25 News, updated some listings, and added the text of the Paul Mantz crash report.

The third person in the last photo of the Tallmantz Photo Gallery #2
is Larry Hagman with a beard.

But you knew that already!

Very informative as always Scott !

THe Liberty Belle is the only B-17 ( of the six ) currently offering rides to the public that I have yet to fly in .....

I hope there will be an opportunity during it's time over this side of the pond. ( But it won't be in the UK that's for sure because of the tight CAA regulations )

Maybe you will bring us a revised version of the Final Cut in in time to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the making of the Memphis Belle motion picture ?

Thanks for the updates Scott. Very informative as usual. Also, fantastic article in the Apr/May Warbirds Digest about the Tallmantz collection and where they are located today.

Hi Scott - I always look forward to your updates!

The eighth photo in the new gallery of Frank Pine in the A-26 was probably shot during the filming of the uncompleted Whistler's Mother movie. The way I heard it, there was a lot of second-unit footage of the plane shot before the project was abandoned.

Why would that matter? Does the CAA care about transient aircraft that are only visiting? Please elaborate.

I'm not involved in the field of flight regulations for the UK or Europe.

However ~ I've read this thread on another forum .......

http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showth ... erty+Belle

If you scroll down far enough it seems fairly clear that passenger flights will not be possible.

Flight's in anything that cannot be classified as either training or airline operation is not allowed for hire or reward. ( Reward includes paying for the fuel )

Even with a full Air Operators Certificate ( read airline ) all european ( EU ) passenger operations of DC-3 / C-47's ends on July 14th this year because the aircraft do not meet current safety standards. No drop down oxygen masks, floor level emergency lighting, inflatable emergency exit chutes etc etc etc.

You can read more here ~ http://www.classicflight.com/goodbyeDakotas

As a confirmed and motivated B-17 stalker, this is why I make the trip to the US as often as I can afford to fly in warbirds.

Currently if I want to add the Liberty Belle to my tally of B-17's flown ~ it will be by turning up at a US tour stop.

The main reason it hasn't happened so far is the tour schedule normally shows future dates for the next few weekends. This doesn't allow me enough time to plan / get time of work and get a trans atlantic air fare at a sensible price.

Suggestion: call the Liberty Foundation directly and they'll make it work for you. (The number is on the website.)
