Warbird Information Exchange

So i emailed the people at Mayday golf to find about how it got there and was replied with this:

The Lockheed PV-2 was, as I suspect you already know, a Navy submarine
hunter. Our dad (Mayday is very much a family business!) is a private
pilot
and designed the theme of the course, so he went searching for an
airplane
and located this one on a firing range in Texas. He brought it home,
designed the mounting and supervised the construction of the course.
We
don't know the history of this exact airplane, but I can ask him any
specific questions you might have. Just let me know!

You should definitely try to come visit with us at Mayday if you
haven't
already. All the employees are knowledgeable about the airplane and
helicopter and love talking with folks about them. We even have a
photo
album of the course being constructed that they love to share.

Jeez, I've been lurking since the days of Warbirds International and I finally got around to posting!

This is about 15 miles from my hometown so I'm pretty familar with it and tend to play the course when I visit.

Uh, no. Its a corroded shell. There's also a "B" model Huey on a pole there too.

While I would rather see this one in the air or in a museum, at least it is still here. They do keep it very clean, at least it looks that way every time I have been there.

I was impressed with it when I played under it.

Sadly there are many restorable PV-2 Harpoon airframes out there that will likely never fly again due to lack of interest in the type. Unfortunately the few that made it to the airshow circuit didn't live long enough to increase awareness and interest. Paula and he group in Indiana have done a good job keeping theirs in the air and if it wasn't for them I doubt there would be anyone outside of the warbird nerds (us ) who knew what a Harpoon was.

I remember a few years ago there was another mini golf / theme park with a B-25 painted in similar colors (yellow and red) in the Destin area. I think it even had some kind of "Air Tours" logo on it as well. Has anybody else seen it?

from the pic it looks good, can't speak for up close, i gave up putt putt alongggg time ago. i remember a yellow b-25 at ft. walton or destin beach florida, at a simular place. i've been told that b-25 has been sold & restored. saw it in the late 90's to 2000.

It was at the "Big Kahuna" water park. It was since taken down do to a lot of damage over the years from various huricanes. It is supposedly going to be restored by an A&P school in TX for some Chi-com museum.
