DUBAI (AFP) A US B-1 bomber caught fire after landing at a an air base in Qatar Friday but the crew evacuated and was safe, the US air force said in a statement.
The air force said the incident occurred at 9:10 pm local time as the plane was taxiing at al-Udeid air base, 35 kilometres (22 miles) south of the capital Doha.
"A US Air Force B-1 while taxing after landing at al Udeid was involved in a ground incident and caught fire at 2110 local time," the statement said.
"The crew evacuated the aircraft and is safe. The fire was contained," it said, adding that the accident was under investigation.
A US defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity earlier said the bomber hit something while taxiing, causing an explosion. Four crew members were aboard.
