I've recently become a Steve Earle convert. His newest album Washington Square Serenade is good stuff, but his old stuff is great too. I'm especially fond of the song Johnny Come Lately about a P-47 pilot singing about his service and new British wife among other things. Are there any similar songs by other artists regarding WWII from the solder/sailor/airman's point of view?

Thanks for any info!

Zack

It's not about a warbird, and only the first couple lines have anything to do with airplanes, but it's a cool tune... unless you don't like country/bluegrass/folk kinda music, that is...

We used to change the words to Willie Nelson's 'Luchenbach, Texas' to Breckenridge, Texas, and apparently someone else took it one step further and actually made up further lyrics, prompting Willie's camp to put a stop to it....true or not I don't know...but the lyrics started off something like:
"Let's go to Breckenridge Texas...
With Howard and Nelson and the boys...."

I listened to some of the songs on the Dick Jonas link you posted Jack - that's GOOD stuff! I haven't been able to find a lot of the Oscar Brand stuff online (at least the WWII stuff), but I haven't looked much either. Dos Gringos are good (and funny!). Keep 'em coming...

Best one I know is Iron Maiden's Ace's High, about flying and fighting in Spitfires. It's brilliant!

Zack , this one is from the soldiers point of view. Roger Waters wrote this while in Pink Floyd about his father who died in Italy during World War 2. I find it a very moving song , especially because it is based on the truth. The person who put it on youtube has made a nice job on the video too I think.
