They are sexy when theres a Wright J6-7 with H/S GA toothpick pasted on front and shod with 30X5 Bendix.....that's a proper N3N.

That's very close.....get rid of that doodad between the gears, and polish the prop. Can't tell if that's the Naval prop nut cap (all the cadets stole those) but at least it has one. I'll take a bit narrower Townend ring and maybe polish a Pollack front exhaust collector......ggggrrrrrrrrr!!!
That is a handsome example tho' 8)

Never heard of cadets stealing them. They are there for a reason, not just bling bling. What I cant stand is all the travel air's out there using up all our Wrights and wheels. I even have seen a couple with the NAF breather caps!!!!

Oh yeah....now you're talkin'! 8) The tri-colored prop tips top it off! That one looks to have a Wright nut cap...the Naval one had the red star in the center. Most disappeared when the cadet would get his wings, they would creep back out there at night and steal the cap from the ship they soloed in. You can every now and again find a former naval aviator who went thru the program and he will have the blasted thing....getting fewer tho'. Bill Hirzel got his from the top till of a former naval mechanic.....you never know...
Now one last detail.....lose the shielded harness and get some polished Breeze spark plug caps for the Wright spark plug coolers.....whooeee. What a plane.

Guess we have not been that lucky, we have owned our N since 69 and we still dont have one. Tho i find it funny. I really wanted to go back and snag the one off the travel air at sun-N-fun in 91 8)

I do know Kermit had 3 of them on his ford trimotor!!! If I had only known that Capt Al was going to sell it, I would have begged him one last time to sell us one or 3.

I just wish I could afford to buy parts for my project. My wife keeps me too broke for that.
