The story I was told: One evening circa 1978 a B-25 bomber (pictured) shows up at the Burlington, NC airport. It has a damaged propeller. After a period of time, the local prop shop takes ownership. They repair the propeller. The aircraft created a lot of interest locally and officially. After a year or so at BUY, witnesses reported seeing the plane leave late one night, lights out. Not longer after this, it is being watched by the DEA in Santa Marta, Columbia. The aircraft is on a makeshift airstrip getting ready for take-off. Loaded with whatever. THe right strut collapses. The aircraft is quickly offloaded and a bulldozer is used to push it off the runway and into a ravine. (To make way for other aircraft).
