1Lt Earl Heckler is seen in his P-38H Lightning heading towards Rabaul on a B-25 escort mission on Jan. 17, 1944.
He was KIA about 30 minutes later in a low level dogfight with a group of Zeros. 5 more of his squadron mates were also KIA/MIA :cry:

Wow... who took the picture? That must've been quite emotional for whoever it was that developed the film later. I had a friend killed in a car wreck recently and it's still strange to go back and look at the pictures taken just days before.
