Three things:

1) Holy crap, are those F-18's really that close to all the boats or is it just the perspective effect due to the long range lens?

2) That one shot of the close-up of the shock wave is absolutely phenomenal! I've seen a lot of "shock wave" pictures from Navy jets, but never one that was clear without a vapor trail like that. Awesome!

3) From the one picture, it looks like the solo jet is flying under the Golden Gate bridge. Do they really do that? I didn't know it was authorized for any airplane, even the Blues.

Superb photos and link, thanks!

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.

S: Took hammer away from midget.

NO, yes, and no.

Depth of field in big digital lenses end up really goofy. Some of the wide shots show how much area there is around the bay. especially in the Multi ship formations. It took a second look for me too.

The Patriots fly L-39's. They're the ones that were in the AT&T commercial a few months back. You've probably never heard of them as they stay primarily on the west coast.

Here's their website: http://www.airshowsamerica.com/index.html

As mentioned, they fly mainly West Coast displays - I've seen them at Pittsburg, SF Fleet Week and Miramar this year.

Image

Several are ex- or serving-USAF pilots (including a couple of former Thunderbirds), and one is an experienced Russian L-39 demo pilot.

They put up a nice show, including co-ordinated tailslides from 2 of the jets. Here's their website......... http://www.airshowsamerica.com/index.html
