P-322 Lightning?

Hi all,

Was wondering if there are any known parts surviving of the P-322 Lightning?

I do know that the brits experimented with merlins on at least one. I have a picture of it on a test stand somewhere. I dont know if it ever flew however. I believe the picture is in one of my RR heritage trust books on the merlin.....food for thought!

I doubt if any parts survived. I think the Brits returned the two prototypes they tested, and the other 100 or so built ended up in Stateside training units. I'm sure they were "rode hard and put away wet" and junked pretty quickly.

Apropos of nothing, here are a couple pics of a model I built of one of the P-322 prototypes a few years back. I started with the old Airfix 1/72 kit, and deleted the turbos, and re-shaped the engine nacelles with a ton of epoxy putty. I also used a couple of spare P-40 props, since the Lighting I had props that turned in the same direction (one of the reasons it's performance was rather disappointing.)

AFAIK, no surviving parts.
