#1: "HI G" - Unfortunately no other markings to go on. What unit does this Mustang represent? Are there any lists on the net that tie squadron codes (like "HI") to a unit number?

#2: "Old Red Nose" - OK, this one was not a GML, but humour me. Is this another case of generic USAF markings, or does Old Red Nose actually represent a particular unit?

#3: "Ain't Misbehavin" - There was a war-time P-51 with this name operated by the 357th Fighter Group 362nd Fighter Squadron, but the codes on the GML machine is wrong for this unit. Is this another "generic markings" example?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Mike;
1: HI*G is Tom Wood's P-51 Serial Number: 44-74878
N-Number: N6306T and I think it's a spurious code though the overall markings seem to represent the 55th Fighter Group.

3: "Ain't Mis Behavin"'s markings are spurious and the code on the side, I believe, is Robert Ferguson's intitials, one of the previous owners. I don't think the color of the nose is true to a WWII unit either.

Don't know about #2!

Jerry

As to #2, red nose is a 336FS 4FG scheme; the 4FG did have red noses, but there are inaccuracies. See link below for critiques of 4th FG paint schemes on this and other warbirds:

Anyone have any pics of an "authentic" "red nose" scheme with the sweep?

Dan Martin's Ridge Runner is one.

Red Dog XII also looks right.

Thanks August! Seeing Mark Styling's profiles just made my day. Some of those markings I had never seen before!

Tom's is supposed to be a pseudo-55th scheme...

Looks pretty good in the air, too.
