Hello all, helping someone out on another form. Does anyone know the origenal location in a b-25/PBJ data plate in the Airplane? He is going out to look at crash/dump sights and would like to know were on the air frames to look for data plates. Seems like the plate was moved during post war trips to the mod centers. hopping to find were the factory put them. anyone????

Not sure where the interenal data plates are, but I know that Panchito has a small plate on the lower, left rear fuselage skin. It just states the model number, and serial number. This might help if you are trying to id an aircraft. Please don't remove the plates though if you find a wreck....!!!!

Cheers,
Richard

That one is a FAA requirment.
Our B-25 has it's in the cockpit on the right side behind the co-pilots position.
Here's a funny story about that outside plate. Our crew chief Larry was a no bullsh+tt'in take no cr+p kind of guy.
At our first show we got put through the ringer by the local FAA dick wad. All he could find wrong was ther lack of
a/c id on the rear fuselage. Having the USAAF data pointed out to him by the front cockpit made no difference
(you know US ARMY B-25J-30-NA SERIAL NUMBER 44-86725 CREW WEIGHT ect ect). Larry got pissed and grabbed
a big felt marker and scrawled under the tail in 2 foot high letters B-25 MITCHELL 4486725 N25NA.
It looked horrible and we replaced it with a nice tag the next week but Larry got his point through.
Only trouble we ever had with feds except the guy who wanted to see our BATF paperwork for all the machine guns
we were packing   :?:

Thanks so far. NO no plans to remove anything from the wrecks just ID for history trace. I have been looking through my ref. and on the b-25 I worked on years ago it was also on r/h side frame just aft of last cockpit window. but I think this may be were Hayes mod moved it to. I have seen a ref. to Sta.173 fwd of turret ring. and have also seen a manual Pic. with a s/n plate on lower longeron of bomb bay. Looks like these wrecks are under water the way he is talking.
