Didn't want to hijack Jeff's thread :D

Was a start of a air show season with many first for myself this year.

Was the first time for myself in a voluntary role with the Russell Group and a first time being involved with the organization of a air show.

Was the first time shooting a show with my new equipment, Canon 30D x2, 70-200L F2.8, 300L F4 and my new baby 600L F4. The 600 I bought mostly for birds and has become my favorite walk around lens, give me the chance to catch the aircraft as they cut into show center head on ( about 1 click out.

Had the opportunity to meet John Romain and Alan Walker, both very friendly and was a pleasure chatting with them. Of course Rob Gillman was their, and got to see him back in the Hurri doing his thing. Great flying by all.

Larry Rutt and Charlie Fox took care of the announcing, always enjoy Charlie's stories during the show, don't know how he can do it for 2 days straight in that strong sun.

Mr. Russell's birds were up all 3 days of the show, but the Hurricane seemed to be having some mechanical problems through out the weekend. ( which cut short Robs flying on Sunday  )

Here is what you can do with 600mm lens :D

Needless to say it was a great start to the air show season, and i shot way too many images in 3 days. Also have about 2 hours of video that i will get up on youtube in the next few weeks.

Great work Dave, I have got to start saving my money for something a little bigger and a little faster than what I currently have. I figure I have three years till I retire and I will need the new glass by then.

Wow, those are some great shots. Did you need to have a 600mm lens to get those shots( I know we all NEED one, but is the flying that far out? I guess that is my question).

Nice work Dave. Good to see the 600mm is earning it’s keep. That 109 head-on shot is sweet.

Excellent pictures, thank you for sharing. Love the close ups of the Spitfire and White 14.

Thanks guys, it is always fun to walk around a air show with a lens that is near 2 feet long

The 600 was never intended to travel to shows as for most of the time 300-350 is pretty much the sweet spot for most shows. I just wanted to try it out and I love seeing planes head on as they dive down for their pass ( something you don't see allot of mostly side or angle shots )

Tim Russell's is kinda like Geneseo for layout of the flight line, I think you get a little closer at Geneseo ( specially taxi shot )

Would like to try it out at Geneseo, but it is a pain in the .... well you know, to carry around.

Look forward to getting all together for Genni this year.

Cheers Dave C

Dave--

Great shots and good to see you again Sunday. That shot of you with the camo-jacketed 600...I've got basically the same shot from the other side! I'll bring that to Gennie. Or are you going to be at the CWH event?
