JOHNSTOWN — A group of about two dozen gathered to dedicate the flag and flagpole at the Skywarrior exhibit in Johnstown Saturday.
Gloversville Sixth Ward Supervisor Richard Ottalagano thanked the many donors and volunteers who helped make the Skywarrior exhibit a reality.
Rev. Alan Witter noted that “freedom isn’t free’ in his invocation.
Gloversville American Legion Commander Harold Gordon thanked all who have been involved in the project and announced that both the American Legion and VFW halls would have open houses after the Memorial Day Parade in Gloversville Monday.
Ottalagano had a special thank you for John Eisler of Alden Equipment in Amsterdam who was able to get the hydraulic system on Skywarrior working so the wings will fold and unfold.
“As far as I know, of all the military airplanes on display, this is the only one with working wings that open and close,” Ottalagano said.
Ottalagano also thanked Lou Peterson, the Fulton County Airport’s fixed base operator “who kept this project going.”
After the flag raising and 21-gun salute a demonstration by Eisler unfolded the wings on Skywarrior to applause from those gathered at the dedication.
