Thanks for the heads-up on this ball turret part. Fortunately I already have one of these hand control units and actually came across this one on ebay about 3-4 months ago. Since I didn't need a second one I didn't bother to bid on the part and the guy running "Spitfire Spares" ended up acquiring it (he got it for a pretty good price too  ).

If you or anybody else out there comes across any other ball turret parts please feel free to let me know or give out my contact info.

TT...I know of one person in the U.K. that has an end bell assembly shell section that was supposedly recovered from the English Channell. I believe his I.D. on the flypast forum is "Rocketeer" and he even posted a pic of it awhile back on one of the turret threads. If you ever run into him please feel free to try and talk him into selling it.

Thanks again for thinking of me!

John

Yes...I've asked nicely and mentioned to him that I'd pay handsomely for it but he politely declined my offer. Supposedly he is going to try and use it for a restoration, according to his postings. Unfortunately I think he's going to be in for a real shock when he finds out how scarce parts are.

Rocketeer, is a chap named Tony Dyer. He has a wonderful reconstruction of a Hawker Hurricane cockpit section, made from original parts of at least 60 aircraft. His website is as follows...

http://www.airdefencecollection.co.uk

I imagine that you could arrange a trade if you could locate something useful for his projects... just a thought.

Best of luck,
Richard

Hi Martin,

I believe I've emailed this gentleman a few times back and forth regarding turret parts (can't remember his name off the top of my head). He replied to one of my ads in barnstormers and was interested in one of the Bendix chin turret mounts I was selling. He sent me loads of pictures showing some ball turret projects which apparently came from crash sites. I guess he's also associated with a museum as well since he sent me pics of turrets and aircraft stuff on display. He sounds like a nice guy but unfortunately his English was not the greatest so it was hard to understand some of his emails at times. I tried to work out a deal for some of the ball turret parts but just couldn't work anything out...mainly due to the communication barrier. If he's interested in selling parts I'm all ears!
