Saddened to read about the passing of Phyllis Thaxter. Warbird fans will always remember her as the actress who played Ellen Lawson in "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo." That role was, by the way, her movie debut. Later, she faced some Lawson-like challenges of her own when she was struck down with polio in the early 1950s. When the execs at Warner Brothers learned of the polio, they cancelled her contract. Yet she fought back and kept working. One of her later memorable roles was that of Martha Kent in "Superman." A good actress and a gutsy woman. |
