Carl Gwartney, World War II Glider Pilot, Takes Final Flight

Carl Gwartney died peacefully in his sleep this morning, April 18, at his home in San Diego. Carl, born in 1920, was a 2nd Lt and a glider pilot in the 29th squadron of the 313 Troup Carrier Group in World War II. Carl flew a glider to liberate Holland in 1944. He was well known in model plane circles as seen by his award winning, scale model CG 4A glider, in the picture.
