Bob Slaughter who was in the first wave on Omaha Beach with the 29th Division has passed away. Bob was a giant of a man who was the driving force behind the construction of the D Day Memorial located in Bedford,Va.
www.dday.org Mr Slaughter wrote an account of his wartime service in a book called Omaha Beach & Beyond. I read the book a few years ago and found Mr Slaughter's description about his time on the hell that was Omaha Beach to be riveting. I also had an occasion to talk with Mr Slaughter via the telephone about his book. He could not have been more accomadating. One of those people you take a liking to even during a telephone call. RIP Bob.
