Hello all,
I was quite surprised having noticed this not being posted as of yet, and I did not do as I did not feel it was my place to do so. (I had been in touch with his caregiver) But then again, I realized if I don't spread the news, no one else may either. ( I just read of the passing of Col. Lee Archer )
On October 31 2009 at 21:40, Hollis H. Hills passed away in Florida at the age of 94. He was to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full Military Honours Sunday, January 11th, at 9 A.M., Arlington National Cemetery. (yes October 31, 2009 is correct date)
I had the pleasure of meeting with him in March 2009 and perusing his log book. I was quite interested in the Canadian use of the Mustang during the war, staring with the Mustang I. As I'm sure many of you know, Hills is credited with the first aerial victory in a Mustang on August 19, 1942 over Dieppe. Hills left the RCAF and transferred to the USN where he went on to claim 4 more Victories flying the F6F Hellcat in the Pacific Theatre.
Word from his caregiver was that he was quite a fighter in his last few years.

Wow. I didn't know he was still alive until recently. Sad.
