j.g. ballard, author of the book "empire of the sun" has passed. his book, which was a novel was based on his experience of being interned by the japanese as a child. he drew on his experiences to write the book, which later became a spielberg movie, & a great 1 at that!! he was 78, succumbed to prostate cancer.

Hard to believe that kid is now playing Batman...

Sad news. I enjoyed both the book and the movie. The film seems to get overlooked in the shadow of Spielberg's big box office blockbusters, but I think it's one of his best.

I always interpereted it as they were recovering the wreckage for scrap. Heck, there's probably enough sheet metal in the tail of a 29 to re-skin a half-dozen Zeroes.

I enjoyed the movie for it's own sake, but I initially rented it eons ago to see the Mustangs ... I thought they would "figure prominently" based on the commercials I had seen.

Those who have seen the film know how long I had to wait ... What? The last two minutes? Yeah, I coulda fast-forwarded, but like I said the flick was good and I got caught up in the story ...

Still -

1 of 2 choices...... recycling for more weapons, or a propaganda photo opportunity i'd say the latter.
