Has anyone had the experience of moving a Canso/Catalina by road? At first glance bridge clearances would seem to be the problem. Any idea what the minimum height could be after the removal of the wings and the tailplane? Why do these questions always come up in winter? (It is still winter here!) Thanks guys! |

It can be done but you need to find a trucking company with a low boy trailer and then you have to lift the entire fuselage remove or retract the landing gear and build a cradle to support it. If you get a company like Worldwide Aircraft Recovery they can handle the whole project but it is not cheap. |

Shouldn't any bigger a deal than transporting a sailing yacht by freeway/road or moving a house across town, know your dimensions and beeeeee keeeerfulll! A craftman style house was recently moved from Beacon Hill East of KBFI, across the end of the field and onto a barge on the Duwamish River and hauled off to it's new home in the San Juan Islands. |

Thank you for your input. We are in the early stages, we will have to see how it turns out. |

Call Cross Country Boat Transport Hastings MN, 651-437-2454 . They hauled the cat on a hydraulic boat trailer and it fit like a glove. |

How far are you wanting to move it I was invovled with moving one from the airport in Goosebay to the wharf there, with it on is main gearthen when it got to North Sydney the gear was retracted then placed on a low bed and taken to Halifax This was in 88 and 90 so long ago. I see if I can find pics. |

The late Gary Austin moved a Catalina by road a few years ago. There was a topic about that, the pictures are probably gone now, but the topic could be found I suppose. |

Canso 42 - All we, in the shop, have been told so far is that it is being 'donated' to us from Ottawa. Whether it is surplus to the museum or from another source we have not been told. Last I heard they are thinking of moving it with a Chinook. |

If it is, Id' hate to see her leave Rockcliffe. ![]() ![]() |

rcaf_100, we are not able to display it inside. That is the main reason we 'lost' the Gananoque Canso. The museum is planning new buildings/shelters, no idea of the timeframe. |

Canso 42, I checked and it is the Canso from the Ottawa Museum which, along with the B-25, is being transferred to the NAFMC at Trenton. The reason I was given is that they need the space to display some new items. |
