It arrived with some other stuff, but I'm not familiar with it?

It doesn't have any part numbers stamped on it anywhere, but does have a few small "UAP" inspection stamps on it. Has a US Shrader valve & AN4- gland nut locking bolt.
Looks like it was originally painted silver with some now illegible black stencilling on the cylinder.

Just out of interest... any idea's?

T-6 tail strut.

It's dimensionally very similar to a T-6 strut but has different mounting lugs.... two narrow lugs on the bottom of the cylinder whereas the T-6 ones I've seen have a single wide lug.

Jason is right. I had the same reaction as B29 when I first saw it, but something didn't seem right. Have you checked the Boomerang and Wirraway? Hoping someone will weigh in.

It's not like any of the P-40 struts I've ever seen, and I've looked at quite a few. Could it be earlier P-40B or C or maybe P-36?

Thanks RobC that is something I hadn't thought of, but turns out it is different to Wirraway struts I've seen but unsure about Boomerang?.... don't know if they used different struts or not?

I agree with Brandon's suggestion.... it's different to the P-40 struts I have seen as well... but of course I'm open to suggestions from those that know more?

Seems like a bunch of wild speculation without much documentation behind it...

Hi Guys,

Battle is correct, this is a Vultee Vengeance tail wheel strut. I guess he wins the pony!!

I had a strut the same as this, mine had the large brass Vultee data plate attached and was painted silver; the data plate is missing from this strut but you can see the outline of where it has been. I gave my strut to a chap who as collecting Vengeance parts here in Oz, my strut was complete with the mounting pins and shackles on each end. I have a picture of the strut that I had but no clue as to how to attach it here.
