Does anyone out there know what a "Flight Command Indicator" is on an F-84F? It is on the lower left corner of main instrument panel. Also, does anyone have a good photo or diagram of the upper panel. Ours is a F-84F-35 and much of the lettering is unreadable in the copy of the Flight Handbook that we are using.
Thanks
Ron

Hi John Yes, that is the manual that we have been using. It's just not clear enough and it doesn't give any info about the Flight Command Indicator is.

Hi Bob Thanks for the link. We have looked at it and an original Flight Manual and we still can't tell anything about the FCI. I have asked a couple of pilots who flew the F-84s and they don't remember anything about it. It looks like there might be some small boxes on the face so if they are lights, it maybe it's some kind of warning device. So we're still stumped! Thanks again

Long shot, but look at this F-89 as posted in the WIX Hangar. Located in nearly the same location on the panel is the Flight Computer Indicator, which appear to allow the pilot to choose which nav source will be displayed on his needle(s).

I followed the links to the online version of the F-84 manual and, of course, some pages are intentionally missing so that you will purchase the manual. If you have access to the full manual, I'm surprised the instrument in question would not be covered, most likely in Section IV.

Have a look:

Thanks for the info, what a beautiful cockpit! This has been a interesting talking point around the Museum. We have a few folks who have flown aircraft from that vintage and we have a bunch of warbird guys, but no one knows anything about the FCI. Yes, we do have a full flight manual and an IPB. In the Flight manual, all three versions show the FCI with no description in the text but in the IPB it shows a bearing temp or a blank out panel in that location. Very strange!

Still looking for the wording on the upper gun, missile, bomb control panel.

Thanks all
Ron
