Post subject:  Wartime Placard Font

I have been asked to help reproduce numerous placards for a wartime L-5 restoration. Does anyone know what font (if there was a specific one) was used during the WWII years for placards on U.S. aircraft, and specifically, the L-5? I know it will not be a font that would be readily available in electronic form today, but if I can find out what it was, I can modify something else that is close to recreate what I need.

Many thanks in advance for any help or recommendations you guys can provide.

Mike

Well, I don't know about the L-5,
but the B-17 used two main fonts:

Bernhard Gothic Std Heavy font
Pioneer font

I found Bernhard Gothic available for purchase,
but have never found the Pioneer type face.
