Old Engine Starter

I just received an old starter from a friend. It was made by Ecipse Aviation. Its data plate shows it to be a Type 393, Model 4, Style A. It appears to be a hand turning gear type starter. Is any forum member familiar with or has used this type of starter?

Hi Jetmech,

The Type 393 model 4 is used on the Ranger engine in the Fairchild PT-19. What kind of shape is it in?

Thanks,

Steve

Steven

The starter exterior is not bent, buckled, or distorted and no visible corrosion, Just dirty. I did not receive a crank handle with it but it does rotate and appears to have about a 6:1 gear reduction.
